Golf Courses - Tee Turf
All our turf for tees is grown on a very sandy, free-draining topsoil containing low levels of silt and clay.
1. Tee turf with ryegrass
Arena Bargold Specification Sheet
Our Arena Bargold is the most popular turf for tees. It incorporates the fine-leaved ryegrass Arena Bargold, a cultivar which has revolutionised the use of ryegrasses on golf courses. It combines fineness of leaf with high wear tolerance to give excellent performance on golf tees. Mowing height for tees: 10-12mm.
Our Arena Bargold has even found its way onto more traditional courses where ryegrasses were not previously considered.
The typical seed mixture used for Arena Bargold is:
- 40% Bargold dwarf amenity ryegrass - Lolium perenne
- 60% Barcrown slender creeping red fescue - Festuca rubra litoralis
2. Tee turf without ryegrass
100% Fescue Specification Sheet
Our 100% Fescue turf is used primarily for tees on links courses. In the early days, we included smoothstalked meadowgrass in the mixture, but we found that the smoothstalk produced a rather clumpy, uneven look to the turf. Under the right conditions, 100% Fescue turf gives a very high quality tee. Mowing height for tees: 10-12mm.
The typical seed mixture for 100% Fescue is:
- 70% Barcrown slender creeping red fescue - Festuca rubra litoralis
- 30% Bargreen chewings fescue - Festuca rubra commutata
